My studio is a personal space where I paint and entertain visitors. I like to draw on canvas that is hanged on the wall in the center of the room. In the corner I have a big, movable table with everything I need on it and along with that, a small storage for all my drawing tools. I also have a sitting area for guests and a room for silk screen printing, clay work, storage for drawings. There is also a resting room and a kitchen. Outside is an extension for carving or sculpture and a garden.

Jaffar Al Oraibi

I studied at the Bahrain University and graduated with a BA degree in 1999.

I am a conceptual graphic artist so everything could be a suitable subject to draw and try to include enough contexts for the viewer’s understanding and response. My use of colour or the absence of colour also contributes to the emotional impact as I use oil paint, ink, coal, oil bar, and I print with copper plates & silk screen too.

I don’t think drawing is dying but what I’m sure about is that the language in academic drawing must be changed to adapt with the modern language because human thinking is fast and continuously changing so that the artist can choose between coping with the language of the age or to be an influential element and create a new language.

I hit a creative spark when I make a mistake. If I didn’t succeed as a painter, my second career choice is to be in couture. The best advice I received was to keep busy thinking, but when I start drawing I forget everything.

My future goal is to work on a conceptual art project with a team.
