
Berlin Art Week:17–22 September 2013

Berlin’s arts businesses prepares for the second edition of Berlin Art Week, on 17–22 September 2013, the art event unites significant art fairs and institutions, creating synergies among key players in fairs, exhibitions and discussions.
The partners in this new venture include two trade fairs, the abc – art berlin contemporary and Preview Berlin Art Fair. Various arts institutions in the city are also involved, including the Akademie der Künste, the Berlinische Galerie, C/O Berlin, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, the Nationalgalerie, the Verein der Freunde der Nationalgalerie, the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) and the Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst (NGBK) e.V. The Berlin Senate’s Ministries for Business and Culture are also participating.

Senator for Economic Affairs, Cornelia Yzer, pointed to the growing importance of the arts market in Berlin: “More and more artists and gallery owners are coming to Berlin and are becoming an important economic engine for the capital. With Berlin Art Week, the city has created a significant event in the international calendar for art collectors, artists and art institutions. “
André Schmitz, Berlin’s State Secretary for Culture, sees the Berlin Art Week as the best way to secure a place in the national and international cultural calendar: “I am particularly pleased that three renowned public institutions, the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Kunstwerke and the Berlinische Galerie, have joined forces to put on a joint exhibition for the next Berlin Art Week”.
