Haunch of Venison will present London-based artist Kevin Francis Gray’s first solo exhibition with the New York gallery. The exhibition includes a selection of porcelain, bronze and marble sculptures. Drawn heavily from both popular culture and the gritty reality of an uncompromised urban life, Gray’s subjects are people from the neighborhood surrounding his studio in London.
The exhibition includes the life-size Carrera marble Ballerina, veiled in fabric that clings to the dancer's frame and is reminiscent of the expressive eroticism of Hellenistic sculpture. Another highlight includes Twelve Chambers, a group of twelve porcelain busts of subjects who evoke emotional fragility. Its surface stands in contrast to the roughly textured life-size sculpture "India" cast in bronze, a departure for the artist who in recent years has worked with polished surfaces.
