Art Escape

MY VISIT to the Arabian Gulf was an opportunity to discover and

experience the wonders of the Gulf countries. The rich culture,

heritage, the way of living and of course the friendly people.

Last April, I went Sharjah for the Lines of Light, Workshop at the

Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial. I was welcomed by professionals

Alaa Edris and Hisham al Madlhoum who were kind and

friendly. Hisham was my guide at the Heritage festival and

helped me to appreciate the culture of Sharjah.

My art was well received and it was a great experience to paint

the wall fresque at the Maraya Art Center at Al Qasba. The

workshop was a great experience too. Initially, I was supposed

to work with 12-15 students, but finally they were about 50! They

were very curious and interested in the activities and produced

very good artwork; we made video projection outside on the

museum walls.

I passed by Dubai and saw the amazing architecture and two

weeks ago I was in Doha. It has been a very enriching

experience which someday I would like to visit again.
