Broomhill National Sculpture Prize 2013 is now accepting entries

Permanently Temporary 2012 by Graham Guy-Robinson

“The National Sculpture Prize presents a rare opportunity for artists. With a brief to inspire ambition and experimentation, the Prize not only provides funding for ten sculptors to realise their proposals, but includes the curatorial support and enthusiasm of the whole team at Broomhill.” Kate Jago, editor of Proof Magazine.

 2012 NSP Results

This year, choosing from an impressive standard of submissions, the judges selected ten finalists covering a range of media and with a diverse approach to their materials. Each of the ten finalists were given a £1,000 budget and 3 months to turn their proposed idea into an inspiring finished piece for the Summer Exhibition.

Following a successful exhibition that displayed new pieces from the 10 emerging sculptors, the judging panel (including internationally acclaimed artists Abigail Fallis and Rupert Gatfield) came together last month to select the winning piece.

The judges favourite and winner of the Broomhill NSP 2012 title is ‘Permanently Temporary 2012’ by Graham Guy-Robinson.

“Our winner has questioned form and function, challenging both his material and his viewer. Graham Guy-Robinson has surmounted several issues of production to achieve an extraordinary level of finesse. Not only does he make his definition of space contingent, its boundary transgressive, its presence fluid and flexible, the articulation of an ‘other’ space, he both privileges the space enclosed and at the same time evaporates its definition with considerable lightness of touch.” Kate Jago, editor of Proof Magazine.

“Working in advertising and design I was pleasantly surprised to see parallels with the level of conceptual thinking and rationale in many of the proposals.

This depth of thought undoubtably contributed to the success of the finalists and the eventual winners.”

Dean Sampson, Creative Director of Bray Leino

Each visitor to the exhibition had the opportunity to vote for their favourite sculpture, this activity proved as popular as ever!  The sculpture that captured visitors attention the most this year and winner of the ‘Public Speaks’ title is ‘Yielding Ash’ by Oliver Adams.
