Graphics’ identity is a cyclical event which presents artists not only from Lublin, but also from Poland and abroad. For the last five editions, the showrooms have been the presentations of authors and their works of various artistic disciplines. 15th Eastern Showroom is an all-Poland graphics artists’ exhibition entitled ‘Graphics’ Identity’. 20th century provided graphics with autonomy as no other discipline evolved so much using the technical development of print. When trying to analyze the history of graphics one can observe that there have been many tools and instruments invented over the years and although they did not serve artistic purposes thay have become artistic techniques such as wood engraving, litography or etching. The 60s marked the reform of screenprint and photolitography which were used by artists dealing with offset print and photography. Nowadays, computer graphics does not surprise anybody. However, some people were concerned about its influence and possible regress of the ‘real’ art. Those anxieties were caused by the difficulties in specification of the new technique. Until then, graphics was characterised by the existance of template, repeatability, two – dimentionality and a mechanical method of the visual record. These were the features that distinguished graphics from other pieces of art. However, such rigid constructing of the field’s identities and such a limited definition of this discipline have turned out to be insufficient when it came to artefacts. We shall be able to observe it at this exhibition which tries to make us familiar with the variety and abundance of the visual record of the discipline and tries to search for its identity.
