- Emirati artist, photographer, and graphic designer, Hussain AlMoosawi will debut his ‘Facade to Facade’ exhibition
- Drone Photography Industry Leader DJI will present the GPP Photo Week FlyZone in collaboration with Alserkal Avenue
- Gulf Photo Plus will host a series of free to attend Spotlight Talks aimed at developing emerging photographers as well as Spotlight Talks by brands such as Sony, Fujifilm, and Canon covering a series of topics including timelapses, lighting and wedding photography
- Fujifilm, in collaboration with Gulf Photo Plus, will host the inaugural X-Summit, an intentionally live-streamed panel discussion with participants from Fujifilm, photographers and industry insiders
Gulf Photo Plus (GPP), Dubai’s centre for photography, today announced a comprehensive line-up which includes 7 exhibitions, 26 workshops and 7 free to attend Spotlight Talks, in addition to 12 Fujifilm PhotoFriday sessions, The ever-popular ShootOut and the inaugural Fujifilm X-Summit. The 15th annual edition of the festival, which will begin on February 4th and run until February 9th, will see a series of collaborations with local artists and galleries and industry-leading brands such as Fujifilm and DJI to present the most extensive GPP Photo Week yet.
Speaking ahead of the festival, Mohamed Somji, Co-Director of Gulf Photo Plus, commented “GPP Photo Week is a unique opportunity where photography industry leaders and the community can engage in different ways. We’ve worked very hard to present our most varied programme yet, catering to a range of interests in all aspects of photography, whether you’re looking forward to the workshops, exhibitions or The ShootOut there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Spread across Alserkal Avenue, GPP Photo Week 2019 will see a total of 7 exhibitions showcasing a range of local, regional and international artists. In addition to headline exhibition: The Shortest Distance Between Us: Stories from the Arab Documentary Photography Program, GPP will also present Facade to Facade by Emirati artist Hussain AlMoosawi.
The exhibition explores the rapid urban redevelop in the UAE, the temporary nature of the ‘now’, and the power of design on our lives. Facade to Facade aims document the UAE’s architectural heritage of the ’70s, ’80s and ‘90s transporting its viewer into each decade with facade representing, very directly, the aesthetics of its time. The exhibition will be hosted in the GPP gallery space in Alserkal Avenue and will continue until June 8th.
GPP has also partnered with a series of local galleries to present a series of exhibitions, including Building Blocks by Sara Naim, exhibited in The Third Line, The Beholder by Maria French, hosted by SVENM, Behind the lens: Teddy Mitchener (b.1972) by Teddy Mitchener, exhibited by AKKA Project and the group exhibitions Southern Hues by Tamashee and NEW JAPAN PHOTO – ISSUE 7 by CHI-KA.
The Spotlight Talks will also make their return to PhotoWeek this year, with a series of talks by GPP instructors, internationally renowned photographers and Industry-leading brands, Sony and FujiFilm, GPP Photo Week 2019 will see the most varied schedule of talks yet.
The talks cover a number of facets of photography including structuring workflow, creating commercial briefs and landscape photography. All Spotlight Talks are free to attend but require registration due to limited capacity and high interest.
As well as their workshops and talks, GPP has assembled an unrivalled programme of activities that cater to a range of interests. Headlining Fujifilm Photo Friday is the Fujifilm X-Summit. The event includes an open panel discussion with participants from Fujifilm, photographers and industry insiders. The panel discussion will be centred around Fujifilm‘s Future concepts for the GFX and X Series cameras and will be streamed internationally, the event is free to attend but requires online registration.
GPP has also partnered with DJI, the leading brand for drone and aerial photography to create a truly unique experience. DJI will be creating the DJI Fly Zone, an outdoor area in Alserkal Avenue in which they will perform a series of demos with their drones and allow members of the festival to test out drone flying.
Also making its return at GPP Photo Week 2019 is The ShootOut . The traditional curtain closer of GPP Photo Week, this year’s edition will see Caleb Arias, Sara Lando and Mike Kelley pitted against one another and the clock as they rush to shoot and process the best possible photograph in only 20 minutes in front of a live audience who decide the winner.
For all those tech and gear inclined, GPP Photo Week will present both The GPP Trade Show and GPP Market Day. The GPP Trade Show is an exhibition of all of the latest photography gear by industry manufacturers such as Fujifilm and Sony, who will also provide attendees with special offers and free camera cleaning services.
Saturday, February 9th will see the inaugural GPP Photo Week Market Day, for any and all interested in buying second-hand gear, equipment or networking. Market Day allows photographers to find the best bargains, try before they buy and negotiate a cost face-to-face.
Finally, GPP has collaborated with Instax to provide four Instax Artist Loft Sessions. Aimed at children aged 6-12, the sessions are free to attend opportunities for kids to explore their creative sides as they create their own photo journals with paint, stickers, and Instax film in thejamjar at Alserkal Avenue. Registration is necessary for these sessions due to limited availability.
Every year, GPP Photo Week creates an accessible entry point into the world of photography for people from all backgrounds. The event provides attendees with a holistic photography experience, giving photographers – professionals, amateurs, and enthusiasts alike – an opportunity to engage with photography as an art form while immersing themselves in Dubai’s burgeoning art scene and forging new connections with fellow photographers and teachers from around the world.
GPP Photo Week 2019 kicks off on Monday, February 4th and will continue until February 9th.
