Dear Artbahrain,

I can read that you are giving us freedom to say our mind. Thank you because this is a crime. How can we use foreigners and amateurs to represent our country. If the government is thinking that way why you do not use the money in the right way like make a school of fine arts because most Bahrainis can no afford to go abroad to study instead of trying to participate in bienale with the wrong artists. Many Bahraini artist who are very disappointed because the government allow some people to always get away with insulting us when there job is suppose to helping us. This people come to our exhibitions only for show but not really caring for us and not understanding what art is. Every year the artist situation is getting worst. How can we create better if we are treated this way.

I hope the good people in the government will read all this post so maybe they will put the right, qualified person in the position to really care of our rich arts than bringing arts from outside. Annual show for the artist is not enough and then the rest of the year nobody cares for the art. The one gallery will not show for Bahraini artist, only 1 or 2 a year because they do not make money of us. Another gallery will show only for students because they have workshop and get money and sell young artist works cheap. The other one only for her friends.

Nobody belives in this art and culture anymore. Let them have all there culture but we need a leader who is a great artist who will understand what we need in this country or art will just die.

What a felony ! This is the first time that Bahrain participate in the world's olympic art scene . And what happens ...? A fiasco .... what's going on in Bahrain ? Two years ago your pavilion at the architecture Biennale you won the the golden lion prize and everyone clapped for you . That's fine so far but what you did really? You hired two famous architects from Lausanne to do the work for you. Where is the Bahraini architects ? Now you are repeating the same blunder this year. If your judgement that there are not good enough Bahraini artists and architects then simply don't participate and waste public monies or your ego is controlling you ? Are you trying to build a name for yourself or for Bahrain ?
I can't say more as others on this page have said it better than me . I bit that no one will get a reply to their comments .
Thank you ArtBahrain for highlighting this matter.

I saw this in twitter and I wish to clarify this: "I chose Mariam Haji, Waheeda Malullah and Camille Zakharia to represent Bahrain due to their artistic merit. In a context where there is as yet no tradition of breaking with tradition, each artist represents a kind of leadership in the search for innovation and self-questioning in their art practice, which is the foundation of a developing contemporary art scene."

Ms Curator, MHaji and WMalullah are not the only merited Bahraini artists. You say Bahrain has "yet no tradition of breaking with tradition" and that your selection of artists "represents a kind of leadership in the search for innovation and self-questioning in their art practice, which is the foundation of a developing contemporary art scene" implies that other Bahraini artists do not search for innovation, you call Mariam Haji's feminist drawing innovation? self questioning because her sexual self portrait appears victorious surrounded by donkey's a metaphor for men? Malullah's photography that she is walking in a pipe? Zacharia's collage? Is this how you measure innovation? I think you'd better change your reason why you chose these artists.

so annoyed is right, you are a waste of government money. Money that should have been used to educate the "traditional Bahrain artist" rather than pay you and spend to exhibit in Venice.

To the government of Bahrain, if you believe that Bahraini artists needs to innovate, send them for education, not spend money on something that does not represent Bahraini art at all. Zacharia is not even Bahraini.

What is this? If you donot understand art, ask somebody who does. The ministry of culture should focus on dancing and singing because they are good in doing this as if Bahrainis dance and sing like the shows they bring. This is not even Bahraini culture.

Somebody stop this nonsense.
